Julia Adele Sauter, age 95, of Mt. Pleasant, passed away Tuesday, February 9, 2016 at home surrounded by her loving family. Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held at 5:00PM on Friday, February 12, 2016 at Trinity United Methodist Church, 202 S. Elizabeth, Mt. Pleasant, with Pastor Michael Palmer officiating. Visitation with the family will begin at 3:00PM at the church prior to the service. A traditional family “Pizza Night” will be served at the church immediately following the service.
Julia Adele Wilson, was born in Johnstown, Pennsylvania on November 19, 1920 the seventh child of Charles and Julia St. Clair Wilson. She married Melvin Sauter on September 29, 1943, in Johnstown. Together they had seven children Linda (Al) Kaufmann, Melanie Main, Jeanne (Gary) Strandburg, Jeffrey (Margo) Sauter, Michele Sauter, Leslie (Tom Armstrong) Sauter and Douglas Sauter. She was blessed with fifteen grandchildren; Kelly (Shingo) Matsubara, Michelle (Ted) Gostomski, Ashley (Padraic) McMeel, Jeffrey (Kelly Sue) Eccleston, Chad (Cheryl) Main, Matt (Jodi) Main, Alison (Dave) Coulter, Alec Strandburg, Matthew (Lori) Hutting, Kami (Mike) Andler, Tiffany (John) Schultz, Stefany (Kyle) Schiller, Nathan Theunissen, Richard Armstrong and Julia Armstrong. She was also blessed with fourteen great grandchildren: Sky Ueki, Logan and Casen McMeel, Sam Hutchinson, Carisa and Cirsten Main, Caleb Hutting, Deegan and Dainan Hutting, Katelyn, Bryce, Avery and Andrew Schultz, and Callan Schiller.
Julia and Mel started their family shortly after he returned from the war. They moved from Pennsylvania to Michigan, with their first child, Linda in 1949. The family lived several places and then moved to the current family home in Mt. Pleasant. Julia was an early career woman, graduating from the Cambrian Rowe Business School. She worked as a secretary for the Mt. Pleasant City Police, Mt. Pleasant Public schools and the Central Michigan University School of Accounting where she retired in 1984. Julia was involved in the community in many ways, particularly in the Association for Inter Faith Ministries (AIM). She was a foster parent and also volunteered for Eight CAP & Public Health. She was a charter member of the “Eta Pizza Pi Night” group since 1972. She was a devoted woman of faith, deeply involved with the United Methodist Church. She helped to make sure that everyone had a ride to church and also helped with the United Methodist Women. Julia was an avid Detroit Tiger fan and enjoyed music, flowers and spending time with her family and friends.
Julia was preceded in death by her parents and her loving husband Mel (1987), as well as her deeply loved and missed son, Douglas (1993).
